WELCOME TO WISCONSIN NORML
A STATE CHAPTER OF NATIONAL NORML
National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Law

Our mission is to move public opinion enough to achieve the repeal of marijuana prohibition
so that the responsible use of cannabis by adults is no longer subject to penalty.

Legalize Medical Marijuana
in Wisconsin Now!!

A Nov. 2002 Time/CNN poll shows that 80% of Americans support the legalization of marijuana as medicine. A 2002 WI Trends Survey found that 80% of Wisconsinites favor medical marijuana, as well. Also, as of December 2001, the WI Nurses Association supports access to therapeutic marijuana/cannabis.

Please write to your assembly representative and ask them to support medical marijuana by co-sponsoring a bill that includes: freedom from persecution with a doctor's recommendation, allow a minimum of 6 plants per patient, permit a caregiver to grow for up to 6 patients. Governor Doyle has already said that if a bill gets to his desk he will sign it.

WE DID IT! MARK GREEN IS NOTHING MORE THAN A MEMORY NOW!

Unfortunately while Green is Gone:

Steve Kagen votes to arrest medical marijuana patients: John Gard would approve! READ IT HERE!

Protest pics

John Gard didn't get his seat in Congress either! Welcome Dr. Kagen! You let us down big time! (He ran against Gard on a platform to improve health care, and to stop locking up non violent offenders, which John Gard used in ads saying he was weak on crime for not locking up drug dealers). Now Kagen has voted against medical marijuana!

Even Judy Krawczyk the state assemblywoman lost her seat by 78 votes (out of about 18000 votes cast)! Welcome to Jim Soletski, I look forward to corresponding with him instead! All of these people had stood in the way of Wisconsin's progress on the Medical Marijuana issue. Thanks to all who voted, and to those who didn't vote - you're lucky that enough of us did get off our asses to make a difference!

Thanks to all who called Mark Green's Campaign office to encourage debate, and second thoughts into his Campaign office! (He never did answer Jacki's letter to him http://www.immly.org/jacki2green.htm), but we did generate a flood of over 45 calls to his office, and Mark had this issue forced on him even though he wanted nothing to do with it. Hopefully we contributed to his defeat with our protests, lit-drops, and phone calls! Bye Mark Green! You should have just answered Jacki's question!

FREE MARIJUANA
From Tyranny and Injustice

Marijuana use is not dangerous to individuals or to the public and the extreme measures taken to persecute marijuana use are not justified by democratic values. A marijuana tax could raise billions for drug education programs and national health care. Learn your Rights, Learn the Facts, Join the Resistance!

Police Excess: Since forfeiture laws were liberalized in 1985, drug arrests have jumped 50%. The police have a direct, financial stake in making the public believe marijuana is dangerous, because the marijuana laws enable the police to seize property and keep it for their own use.

Denying the Sick: To justify expanding police power the state must claim that marijuana is a dangerous and worthless drug. For this reason, they deny access to marijuana as medicine to hundreds of thousands of patients with AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, and other serious ailments for which marijuana has proven therapeutic effectiveness.

Expert Opinion: According to the latest edition of the Merck manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, "the chief opposition to marijuana rests on a moral and political, and not a toxicological, foundation."

 Principles of Responsible
         Cannabis Use

Adults Only

No Driving

Choose Setting Wisely

Resist Abuse

Respect the Rights of Others

Wisconsin NORML's Policy Statement

WI NORML supports the right of adults to use marijuana responsibly, whether for medical or recreational purposes. All penalties, both civil and criminal, should be eliminated for responsible use. Further, to eliminate the crime, corruption and violence associated with any "black market," a legally regulated market should be established where consumers could buy marijuana in a safe and secure environment.

Recreational Use

It's time to stop arresting responsible marijuana smokers.  Millions of Americans use marijuana; few abuse it.  Arresting these otherwise law-abiding citizens serves no legitimate purpose; extends government into inappropriate areas of our private lives; and causes enormous harm to the lives, careers and families of the more than 750,000 marijuana smokers arrested each year in this country.

Marijuana smokers are no different from their nonsmoking peers, except for their marijuana use. Like most Americans, they are responsible citizens who work hard, raise families, contribute to their communities, and want a safe, crime-free neighborhood in which to live. They are not part of the crime problem and should not be treated like criminals.

Responsible marijuana use causes no harm to society and should be of no interest to state and federal governments. Today, far more harm is caused by marijuana prohibition than by the use of marijuana itself.

Decriminalization

NORML supports the removal of all penalties for the private possession of marijuana by adults, cultivation for personal use, and the casual nonprofit transfers of small amounts. NORML also supports the development of a legally controlled market for marijuana.

Harm Reduction

All drugs, including marijuana, can be abused. Our marijuana policies should discourage irresponsible use, including use by adolescents.

The best way to prevent drug abuse is with honest, credible and factual drug education. Only in a climate in which marijuana is viewed from a public health perspective, instead of a criminal justice perspective, can prevention efforts be effective.

Reasonable Restrictions

As with alcohol consumption, marijuana smoking should be limited to adults.
Driving or operating heavy machinery after smoking marijuana should be prohibited.
